In 1949 several Scouters and community leaders in Flemington decidedthere should be a Cub Scout Pack in town. They met to organize and foundthat  they were missing only one leader, the Cubmaster. They asked a youngprinter named Doug Niece if he would be interested. Mr. Niece signed theapplication and has been Cubmaster of Pack 61 ever since!. We believethis makes Mr. Niece the longest-serving Cubmaster in the United States.Mr. Niece officialy retired as Cubmaster in February 2009 on the 60thanniversary of Cub Pack 61.  In 2011 Mr. Niece was recognized as one of the top 100 scouters in the Boy Scouts of America organization nationwide on the 100th anniversary of the BSA

Over the years thousands of young menhave participated in Cub Pack 61. Some have gone on to earn theprestigious Eagle Scout award, others have been given Heroism or HonorMedals for saving a life, and some have even returned as Cub ScoutLeaders with their own boys.

We are very thankful to Mr. Niece for his many years of dedicated service to the young men of our community.
